Lead the Future of Journalism — Apply for the SPJ/LA Board

The Society of Professional Journalists, Los Angeles Chapter (SPJ/LA) is now accepting nominations for its Board of Directors. We’re seeking dedicated leaders who want to help strengthen and protect journalism across Southern California.

Board candidates play a vital role in shaping programs, advocacy and initiatives that support journalists at every stage of their careers. Members of the Board of Directors are elected by SPJ/LA members and serve a three-year term. Elections take place in December, with new terms beginning in January. Candidates must be SPJ/LA members, and those interested can join now to become eligible.

Board responsibilities include attending monthly meetings and contributing to committees focused on ethics, advocacy, diversity, scholarships, Freedom of Information and other crucial issues facing the journalism community.

You do not need to be a working journalist to serve. Educators, retired journalists, media professionals and individuals with strong ties to the journalism world are encouraged to apply.

Founded in 1934, SPJ/LA is committed to supporting journalists throughout Southern California and ensuring they can do their work freely and without interference. The chapter champions ethical standards, defends First Amendment protections, and helps train and inspire the next generation of reporters.

If you believe in the power of a free press, there’s no better moment to get involved. Join us in strengthening journalism during a critical time for the industry.

Those interested in signing up for the board should contact board president Alexi Chidbachian at Alexichidbachian@yahoo.com or spjlosangeles@gmail.com.
