SPJ/LA issues statement on behalf of LA Times walkout

SPJ/LA stands in support of LA Times journalists who walked off the job Friday for the first time in the newspaper's 142-year history. The one-day walkout comes after management disclosed the possibility of substantial layoffs and an increasing budget deficit. Journalists at The Times play an important role in maintaining our democracy, and their jobs are critical in informing the people of LA. They are needed now more than ever before. We hope management and the Guild can come to an agreement that values both diverse voices and long-term experience in the newsroom and backs away from devastating cuts.
