Student scholarship recipients announced

The Society of Professional Journalists Los Angeles Pro Chapter is pleased to announce its 2025 student scholarship awards:

Richard D. Hendrickson Memorial Scholarship of $2,000, to encourage diversity in newsrooms, is awarded to: Adriana Brady, a Santa Monica College student and Editor-in-Chief of The Corsair, who will be attending Loyola Marymount University.

Nonprofit Communications and Media Network's Lisa A. Davidson Memorial Scholarship of $1,500 (supported by contributions to the Ruth Collander Endowment Fund) for a student who will be pursuing a career in journalism, is awarded to: Ira Gorawara who is a junior at UCLA is Sports editor of the Daily Bruin.

Ken Inouye Memorial Scholarship of $1,500, for a college journalist of color, is aimed at increasing ethnic diversity in newsrooms is awarded to: Alan Ko, a student at Thousand Oaks High School where he is Digital Editor at The Lancer student newspaper, Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook and photographer. Alan will be attending California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Helen Johnson Memorial Scholarship of $1,500 for a college student pursuing broadcast journalism is awarded to: Taylor Fukunaga from University of La Verne where she is SPJ student chapter President and an impressive on-camera storyteller.

Carl Greenberg Memorial Scholarship of $1,500 for a college student pursuing investigative or political reporting is awarded to: Amanda Monahan from Pepperdine University where she is the Life & Arts Editor at The Pepperdine Graphic and writes well-research stories.

Bill Farr Memorial Scholarship of $1,500 for high school seniors or college students who demonstrate a strong intent to pursue a career in journalism is awarded to: Emily Dissanayake an Irvine High School student where she was Editor-in-Chief of the El Vaquero student newspaper. She will be attending Northwestern University's Medil School of Journalism.
